Virginia Ham

  • 5 pounds canned ham (fully cooked)

  • 1 cup brown sugar (1 1/2 cups brownulated sugar)

  • 2 tablespoons prepared mustard or 2 teaspoons dry mustard (dry mustard is preferred)

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 2 tablespoons pineapple juice

  • whole cloves

  • sliced pineapple rings or pineapple chunks


  • Combine brown sugar, mustard, and ground cloves with pineapple juice.

  • Add more juice until moistened (but not runny).

  • Score ham in diamond pattern.

  • Stud with whole cloves.

  • Put sugar mixture on top of ham (it will run down the sides as it cooks). Half way through the baking process, place pineapple on top of ham (and sides with toothpicks).

  • Baste often.

  • Bake in 350° oven for about 1 1/2 hours or until heated through.
