Gyudon (Japanese Beef & Onion Bowl)

Ingredients

  • 3 cups short grain rice

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 lb beef (thinly shaved)

  • 1 large onion (sliced)

  • 1 cup water

  • 4 tbsp soy sauce

  • 4 tbsp mirin

  • 2 tsp powdered dashi

Directions

  • Begin cooking the rice

  • In a medium skillet, add the sesame oil and onion

  • On high heat, cook onions until carmelized

  • Add shaved beef to the skillet and cook until brown

  • Add the remaining ingredients (water, soy sauce, mirin, dashi)

  • Simmer until reduced (around 10 minutes)

  • Serve gyudon in a bowl over rice
